Joel Stroetzel | Killswitch Engage | Guitar Rig
Joel Stroetzel is Adam Dutkiewicz’s partner in crime, as guitarist for Killswitch Engage. I’ve previously posted scans of Adam Dutkiewicz’s guitar rig from the old Guitar World column “Vulgar Display, so I thought it was about time I that I post Joel’s as well.
Like Adam D, Joel isn’t a big fan of effects switching, particularly when playing live. For effects he favours a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor with either an Ibanez Tube Screamer re-issue, or Maxon OD808, in the NS-2’s loop.
Furthermore, he says that he changes channels on his amp rarely. For a majority of the bands live set he stays on the lead channel of either his Framus Cobra or Hughes and Kettner Triamp MkII, switching too clean most notably for a passage during the song, “End of Heartache”. For the remainder of the set, he tends to use the volume knob on his Caparison guitars to clean up the tone.

Joel Stroetzel’s rig is another example of keeping it simple, which works for a band requiring chunky tones rather than lush textures to get their point across.
