John Frusciante’s guitar rig and pedal board
Here's the low down on the gear used by Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) guitarist John Frusciante throughout the Stadium Arcadium tour. In my opinion, Stadium Arcadium is not the bands finest work, but still, I love looking a gear, so here we go.
Guitars: ’55 and ’62 Fender Stratocasters; ’69 Les Paul Custom; Martin 0-15.
Amps: Marshall Major and Silver Jubilee heads. Marshall 4x12 cabinets with stock Celestions.
Effects: Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble, DS-1 Distortion, DS-2 Turbo Distortion; Electro-Harmonix English Muff’n fuzz, Holy Grail Reverb, Big Muff Pi fuzz, POG Polyphonic Octave Generator, Electric Mistress Flanger; DOD 680 Analog Delay; Moog MF-105 MuRF, MF-105B Bass MuRF, MF-101 Low-Pass Filter, MF-103 Phaser; Ibanez WH-10 Wah; Dunlop DB-02 Dime Custom CryBaby.
Strings: D’Addario .010-.046.
As you can see from the following picture of his pedal board he has a lot going on. Guaranteed to keep him tap dancing through the entire set.

For the recording Shure SM57 microphones were positioned on axis a couple of inches from the cone. On some tracks a Royer R-121 ribbon mic, positioned about 15 feet away, was used to capture some of the room sound. A Telefunken Ela M 250 tube condenser mic was used to record all of the acoustic guitar parts.
Modular synths played a big role in the recording, and to ensure these parts translated well live Frusciante employs a fleet of Moogerfooger pedals controlled via a couple of CP-51 Control Processors.
If you want to read more on Frusciante and the Stadium Arcadium recording process check out this Guitar Player story, which is where a lot of this information came from initially.
